The Prettiest Thing I Ever Heard.
A Good elder, whoso mind was al
most totally absorbed in making money
'Was reclaimed from the habit of Bleeping
in church as follows;
The preacher had tried many ways to
get the attention of elder A., but every
effort seemed to be of no avail. Ho
would occupy a seat very closo to the
pulpit, throw his head back on tho bench
and'take a nap us long as tho sermon.
This cold indifference greatly annoyed
tho wakeful portion ol* the congregation
and more especially the preacher. Know
ing the elder's great propensity for mon
ey, tho preacher pinned a bright greoo
back dollar to tho bottom of his uotos,
sod before advancing iu his discourse
he raised his no'cs iu full view of his
now half asleep hearer, audsoon got his
entire attention. During the sermon
the proachor kopt his notes in hie loft
hand with tho bottom or dollar side
turned toward the elder, who was now
all attention. The services ended, and
as usuki some asked Brother A. how he
liked tho merman. Says he. 'It was the
prettiest thing I ever (saw) heard.'?
