A few years ago I saw a pert little boy
washing tobacco leaves, and I asked

'What are they good for ?'
He replied, 'Oh. they're good to make
cigars of."

What a pity a boy of fourteen should
like eigars I Tobacco has its uses,
" since nothing was made in vain, but I
don't thsnk smoking or chewing are its
legitimate uses. Much can bo said
against theso habits; vorj little in their
favor.
They waste time.
They annoy others.
They waste money.
They injure the health.
They scent the clothing.
They mako the brcr'h foul.
Thoy corrupt the atmosphere
Are not theso reasons enough against
using tobacco ? And tho worst of it is
they all are true. Few thoughtful, can
did persons, though they may themselves
bo victims of tho habit, will deny ono of
them. Dr. Frauklin said ho never met
ft man that used tobacco who advised
him to follow his example.
"Use doth breed a habit in a man."
Bad habits are easily formed,
"But when you would strip them,
?Tis being flayed alivo."
Thorofore, boys, don't Uarn to smoko.
Don't learn to liko the useless indul
gence.
Keep your lips clean.
Keep yourselves freo.
Never begin!
