Our streets were ?orewded <en 3as*t
llonday to their f ullest extent, although
&he day was very disagreeable, as it
-ruined nearly all tho time, and tho mud

There wore many frames of ^animals
that changed hands, and brought from
55 cts up. Our devil invested the first
named amount in horso bones, but was
lucky enough to get said horse off his
hands at the enormous price of 81, and
seemed highly pleased with the bargain

amount to some to take it off his hands.
^ The day passed off quietly notwithstand
ing there was a good quantity of barley
com drank.

The meeting assembled in the Court
house at 12 m, and was organized by
Col. P. S. Fehler moving that Col. A.
D. Fredrick be requested to act as chair
man anil Mr. S. Glover as secretary.
Col. Frederick stated the object of
the mceting,nnd announced that the
chairman was ready to hear any ! usi
encas that might bo brought forth.
Col. Folder addressed the mectiug
at some length, on the subject of taxa
tion, and stated thnt in consequence of
the death of Col. Humph, there was a
vacancy from this county in the Tax
payers convention about to assemble
iu Charleston on tho 15th proximo.
Col. Felder in the course of his re
marks also advisod that no tax be paid
until after tho meeting of the taxpayers
convention.
It was then moved by Col. P. S. Fol
der and seconded by Dr. A. D. Good
wyn that this meeting go into an
election to supply tho vacancy caused
by the death ot tho late Col. Humph
Tho motion was carried?and Col. P.
rf. Felder almost unanimously elected
to fill such vacancy.
Short and appropriate addresses were
also made during the meeting, by the
County Treatmrer and Mr, Kuowlton,
on the .subject of the short length of
time given for tho collection of the
taxes, sind expressing their opinions
that upon the reassembling of the
Legislature, on extention of tho time
would be granted.
The following Resolutions were
ndoptod, viz:
That, if the Executive committee of
tho Tax Payers Convention call, that
convention togethor and request a lar
ger number of Dolcgates from each
county, that the chairman is hereby
requested to appoint a committee who
will be requested to meet nt the Court
House on the 17th inst, nnd proceed to
appoint the necessary Delegates tos aid
convention.
In obedience to said resolution the
chairman appointed the following nam
ed persons to comprise said committee
