THE ORANGEB?RG NEWS AUGUSTUS B. KNOWLTOW, E DtTOR. GEOROE BOLITEB, fiHAwriAi. AMD Business Makaqkb. Official Paper of tho State ami or Orangeburg County. ? _ MSrTllK OR A NO Eli URG NEWS If AS A LARGER CIRCULATION THAN ANY OTHER PAP.^R IN THE COUN SATUKDAY, NOV. 15, 1873. It was generally addiuiltcd by thoso at the Columbia Fair who had also aeon the Oran^eburg and other county Fairs, that, all things cousidercd, the Orangeburg Fair was *a long way ahead of all its rivals. It is rumored that iu tho event of President Grant declaring war against Spain, tho first regiment of National Guards, of this city, will at onco volun teer and embark for Cuba.?Xexcs A Courier. The News Arc, having editorially de elared for war, the Guards had bet tor brush up their uniforms. Tho Legislature don't know what to do about the State Debt. They arc completely hemmed in by tho State decision in tho Morton-Bliss case and by the United States decision in the Bank of tho Stato caso. But money must be had to run tho government, . somehow, and we very much fear that there is no way to raise it save by ? increasing the taxes. The prospect is gloomy enough. We saw several fascinating editors iu Columbia last Wednesday. There were the bright and beauteous star of Abbe ville, Hemphill of tho Medium?the glorious Adonis of Aiken, Spnrnick of the Tribune?rthe indefatigable Stokes of the Union Times?the quaint and quiet Brunsou of tho Barnwcll Sentinel ?and others. We wish we had bad the time to sec more of them, but busi ness beiog before pleasure, we mourn fully bade the jolly fellows farewell nnrl took the train fV Orangeburg. Mr. Andrews introduced a bill to amend an Act entitled "An Act to amend gection 2, Chapter XXV, of the Gener al Statutes. Joint resolutions to relieve Tarlton McGrew, of Orangeburg County, from legal disabilities; to allow Mrs. T. C. Perkins, of Orangeburg County, to redeem certain forfeited lands in Or angeburg County. Mr. Danncrly introduced n joint resolution to chaugo the name of Russell Wilson to Bussel Keit. Mr. lliley introduced a bill to incor porate the Canaan Baptist Church, at Bfanchvillo ; referred to the committee op charitable and religious institution. Mr. Duncan gave notice of a bill to alter and amend section 23 of chapter 26t of the title 6 of part 1, of the gener al Statutes. Mr. J. F. Myers gave uotico of a bill to oreate or designate no official paperj for the Stato of South Carolina Abo, a bill to change tho timo for the holding of tho courts in Orangcburg county. A . gentle Quaker had two horses, a very good aud a very poor ono. When seen riding the latter, it turned out that his better half had taken the good ono. "What I" said a sneering bachelor, uhow comos it that you let your w ife lids) the better horse ?" The only re ply was, *'Friond, when thoe bo married tbse'll know." "How now ?" a friend said to Jones, finding him looking unusually cheerful and sprightly notwithstanding tho fact that hs had been up pretty nearly all night. "You don't seem to bo affeotcd with tho crisis." And Jones merely remarked, -'No such thing; it's a boy." If you have no Land, go Buy as much as yeu want on EASlf TERMS at the LANP OFFICE of AUO, D.
