Was held at the School House on Tuesday night last (or the purpose of nominating a ticket fur Mayor and Aldermen to be voted upou on the 9th prox. The meeting was called^o order by electing A. F. Browning,, Esq., Chairman and J. Folder Meyers Sec tary. After the Chairman stated the object of the meeting a motion was made that a committeo consisting of seven be ap pointed to retire and make nominations. The following wore appoi nted : Paul Govan, Louis Moss,.. Joseph Houok, Geo. Williams Ilobort Kicken baker, Morris Brailsford. While the committee was out speeches were made by Messrs Humbert, Knowl tort, Larkins, Paulling, Ott and oth ers. The speeches of all the gentle men were modcrato and to the point, nod wero listened to with deep interest by over one hundred staunch voters. After being out for somo time the ;mmittee, through their ohairman, reported tho following nominations, which wore, on motion of Mr Meyers, declared the u nnuimous choice of the mcetiug. For Mayor. George Rpliver. Aldermen. A. F. Hrowning. Geo.; Williams. A. B. Knowlton. F. R. McKiulay. Wo wore surprised at the unanimity whieh prevailed throughout, and the excellent manner in whieh the matter was conducted. Not one bit of wrangling ! nor a dissenting voioe was heard. All seemed satisfied and in earnest. A rallying committee was appointed oonsisting of John Payne, William Smalls, Isaac Whitmore, Gabriel Knight, Lewis Moss, Robert Ricken baker, John Williams, David Hamilton, C. H. Green, Primas Berwick and David Gray. We trust that the Committee will do its duty. If the tioket is defeated, or any part thereof, the responsibility must rest with it. TKe reoent decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States have declared the HOMESTEAD ACTS of this State un conrtitutlonal as to debts contracted prev ious to 1808. The last amendment to the Rankrupt law gives to the debtor the same exemption of real and personal property as was given to bin by the HOMESTEAD LAW. The only way that HOMESTEADS can be secured is by taking the benefit of the Bank rupt Act.
