Mr. Calvin Guignard, one of the late
bolters (they were-all'late* by'the way,
?decidedly behind time) made a speech

he declared, after the most convincing

"bolting" was forever dead and burled
ia Orangeburg County, and that he
tvqped never to see even a ghost ef it
again. Guignard's head is level this
time and wo believe it will stay so.: Re

AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING?
Was held at the School House on
Tuesday night last for the purpose of
nominating; a ticket for Mayor and
Aldermen to be voted upou on the 9th
prox. The meeting was called^o order
by electing A. F. Browning, Esq.,
Chairman and J. Folder Meyers Sec
tary.
After the Chairman stated the object
of the meeting a motion was made that
a committee consisting of seven be ap
pointed to retire and make nominations.
The following were appoi nted :
Paul Govao, Louis Moss,.. Joseph
Houok, Gen. Williams Robert Riokcn
baker, Morris Brailsford.
While the oommittee was out speeches
were made by Messrs Humbert, Knowl
tou, Larklns, Paulling, Ott and oth
ers. The speeches of all the gentle
men wore moderate and to the point,
and were listened to with deep interest
by over one hundred staunch voters.
After being out for somo time tbc
committee, through their ohairtnan,
reported the following nominations,
which wore, on motion of Mr Meyers,
declared the u nauinious choice of tho
meetiug.

A. F. Browning.
Geo., Williams.
A. B. Knowltpn.
F. R. McKiulay.
Wo were surprised at the unanimity
which prevailed throughout, and the
excellent manner in which the matter
was conducted. Not one bit of wrangling
uor a .dissenting voice was heard.
All seemed satisfied and in earnest.
A rallying oommittee was appointed
consisting of John Payne, William
Smalls, Isaao Whitmore, Gabriel
Knight, Lewis Moss, Robert Ricken
baker, John Williams, David Hamilton,
C. H. Green, Primus Berwick and
David Gray.
We trust that the Committee will do
its duty. If the ticket is defeated, or
any part thereof, the responsibility must
rest with it. To work boys, and wk
will win.

Tha recent decisions of the Supreme
Court of the United States have declared
the HOMESTEAD ACTS of this State un
constitutional as te debts contracted prev
ious to 1868.
The last amendment to the Bankrupt law
gives to the debtor the same exemption of
real and persenal property as was given to
bin by the HOMESTEAD LAW.
The only way that HOMESTEADS can be
secured is by taking the benefit of the Bank
rupt Act.
Especial attention has been and will be
devoted to this branch of tho law by
