A MARKET! .'? One of the greatest prcseut needs of Orangcburg is a Towu Market. Meat and vegetables are necessaries of life and yet how difficult it often is it to get them, even when one has the money to pay for them. There ought to be a publio market where the country people could expose their meats and produce for sale .daily. No greater convenience for the towns people could bo imagined. Let somebody take the matter in hand at onoe. We don't like to bore our readers with constant suggestions of what ought to bo done to odvanoe the interests of our Town, and we den't belive that suoh suggestions do boro them. But some people will kick at every proposition in volving a dollar's outlay and it isn't pleas ant to be considered officious by any one. Nevertheless, we are willing to be blamed for asserting that Orangeburg needs, and ought to have, a Town market. Wbe will keep the ball rolling 7 OUR LATE SENATOR? At a mass meeting of the Republicans of Oraogeburg county,held at Lewisville last Saturday, the 19tb instant, of which Mr. Richard R. Duncan was chairman and Mr. J. Herman Wahlers ceoretary, a committee appointed to draft resolu tions in regard to the death of the lion. James L. Jamison, late Senator' from this county, reported the following pre 4 amble and resolution* which were, upoo motion of Malcolm I. BroWoiog Esq. unanimously adopted. Whereas it baa pleased an sit-wise Providence to remove from the soooe of his earthly la bora the lion James L. Jamison, late Senator from this county : Therefore be it Resolved, That in the death of the Hon. James I?. Jamison the Republi can party of this State, and more espe oially of this county, has lost one of the warmest friends, one of the stuuuoheat adherents aud one of the most vigorous, untiriug and successful workers who ever advanced its glorioua banner to victory. Resolved, That the Republicans of this Couuty endorse fully and without limit the course of their late Senator while acting in the councils of our State and of our party, and that tho example ot his political enreor furnishes the best heritage aud guide to those who may succoed him. Resolved; That we extond our heart felt sympathy to his bereaved widow und family in this their hour of ^rouble. A few days ago, a man named Ferry induced a child, aged about thirteen years, to leave her mother and follow him into Colloton County, at which place they wore married. The mother of the child complained to Trial Justice Reodish, who issued his warrant and soon had Porry before him. A prelim inary hearing was had, after whioh, in default of bail, he was committed to jail, te. answer before the Court of Sessions for abduction. - ? A social game of Base Ball was played at Howe's Pump on Wednesday last be tween the Palmettoesof Branchville and the Rowe's Pump Club. The game was won by the Palmetto Club, 53 against 9 Everything passed off pleasantly The Branchville boys express themselves, highly pleased with their visit and have invited the "Rowcs Pump Club," to plsy at Branchville at an early dayj an Invitation which was cordially accepted Camp Meeting commences at Cattle Creek next Wednesday.
