papers that Mr. A. S. Hydrick of this
county rsscived the dogree of M. D.
recently at the South Carolin* LTuivar
sity. Not that Orangcburg roally need*
more doctors, but we might as well have
them as any,other part of the State. Dr.
Hydrick has our best wishes for success
in his noble but arduous profession.
And now tho South Carolina R R
Co., has gone and done it. The down
passenger train reaches here at half past
eight and the up train at a quarter io
eleven. Roth in tho morning. This
may do very well for the passengers,
but is rather rough on tho townsfolks
who, after 10,45 A M, havo nothing
more left to live for, all the blessed stu
pid, laay, hot, miserable jiuminor dty.

THE NEW STREET?
Numerous inquires have boon made
ol us aa to the probable precise location
of the propoaed New Street. That is a
matter entirely in the hands of the
Town Council and ss to which we have
no information whatever. We do not
suppose it to be the intention of any
one interested in the movement to in
jure or incommode any property owner
when the interests of the public can be
otherwise equally suboerved. Where
private and public interests clash or in
terfere, the form must, of oourse, give
way, but we are glad to say that in the
present csse we see do necessity for the
raising of any such issue.

"glorious Fourth." After parading
through the principal streets they

Last week the annual district meeting
was held at the sein ol house on the New
Street to determiue the amount of tax
to be rallied for school purposes in this
district the current year.
On motion of Mr. Meyers, Mr. Me
Kiulay took the chair, aud Mr. liulivor
wus choseu Seoretnry.
On motion of Mr. Kuowlton it was
decidud that two mills on the dollar
should be the amount raised the ootuing
year.
On motion of Mr. Meyers, the ('hair
iippointed the following committee to
recommend a more equal distribution of
school houses iu the district. J Felder

Glover, H Glover, Ksqs.
On notion of Mr M Clover it was
declared that the uuiouut rni'ed under
tho present assessment should be used
exclusively to pay teachers' sularies?
hut that any balance should go to pay
for school hi uses. The meeting then
adjourned.

there is none on sale any where. Cigars
arc manufactured by the Government,
and are sold only a', stoics where noth

They are at fixed prices, the lowest cost
