The intelligence comes over the wires
of the bunging of Foster, the car book
murderer, at New York on Friday
(yesterday) morning at tweutyoue
minutes after niae o'clock. Tbo tole
grum says:
"The Sheriff arrived at the Tombs
piisou at 5 minutes before 1) o'clock,
and posstrd into Foster's cell. The police
wore drawn up in a hollow square.
About two hundred spectators were
present. The prisouer was very weak.
Had the execution been postponed a few
hours, it would have been uecossar/ to
have carr \ Foster to the Scaffold.
At seventeen minutes after nine pre
cisely, Foster passed from bis cell to the
Piison Yard, with the Black-cap ou, his
arms pinioned behind his back lie
wnlked with a firm step to the Scaffold.
Rsv. Dr. Tysg read the lengthy bur

deavored to place his bauds over bis
eyes, but could only reach with his
thumb and forefinger. The reading of
tho d atb warrant was concluded at
twenty minutes after nine o'clock.
The rope was cut at 0 21 precisely.
Foster died easily and showed wonder

Thus bus justice, the stern quality of
mercy, been appeased.
