session a snmber of resolutions proprsing
special taxes in tho various counties.
One of these resolutions. proposing a
tax of tw ? mills iu Kcrshuw Comity,
has already pnssed. Juad Lecome a> law,
but the finance committee < f the Senate
have gathered up :iH tlte rest of tl>e
resolutions and incorporated thorn in an
omnibus hill entitled "a hill to authorize
county commissioucis of certain counties
to levy and collect an additional tax for
certain purpose*." This biU prescribes

devoted exclusively to the payment of

Counties. In the caso of Ilorry County
the tax is for repairing biidgos and pay
ing tho past duo indebtedness, and in
tho case of Williainsburg County the
tax is to pay the indebtedness caused by
the building of a jail in that county.

the order in which they aio audited
Any violation of the resolution by either
of titele officers is declared a misdemean

lived three women and a little boy. All

could to save the struggling men. With
a heroism seldom paralleled, she plunged
out where 'he water was over her head,
and, after a few vigorous stroke*, re idl
ed one of the drowning men. Although

placed his hands on her shouldcy* and*,
was dragged to the shore. The young
