The following is a correct statement of
Cotton- rahftid by Stevens & Cureton, on 11
acres of stubblo land, which wns manured
with 400 pounds of Carolina Fertiliser. The'
tollowing i- the mode of cultivation : It was
thoroughly broken np 12 inches deep, and'
laid off in-rows Jv| feet wide, nnd the Fer
tilize ;? applied in the drill, then bedded on
it on the 16tb of May, and planted the same
day, but owing to the cool and dry weather,
did not come up to a stand until about the
1st or Juno. First working it was ran

trimmed out with a hoe. Second working
it was run around with a 8 inch grub, 12?
inches long,-and-the middles thrown out with
a sweep 18 inches wide. One furrow to a
row and thinned to a stand with a hoe about
12 inches between thr stocks, and after
wards it was ploug*-ul every t#o- weeks'
with a Bweep 18 incbe. wide, and hoed each
time, until it was worked five times.
