Deputy United States Marshals Mount
and Williams arrived in Colombia on
Monday from Oconee County with Rev.
John 8. Etell, Baptist preacher, and J.
J. Ezcl i, his son, who had fled from Spar
jjatabnra to escape arrcstj also, W. B.
Ward and R. L. Lebannon, from Unson
County. These prisoners, arrested for
violations of the Ku-Klux act, were
arrested nu the Severn River, in Oconee
County. They were lodged in the coun
ty jail.
At a meeting of the bar and officers of
the court for the county of Chester fin Id,
last week, complimentary resolutio i,
expressive of their feelings and senti
ments of regard for Judge Rutland as a
man and their approval of his course as
an officer, and their appreciation of his
services In the fair and impartial admin
istration of .justice of the times and the
county, were unanimously adopted.
They were presented to his Honor by
the Solicitor, Major A. J. Shaw, who,
in an able and eloquent speech, exposed
the sentiments of the people of Chester
field at the loss of Judge Rutland as a
jndioial officer, to which his Uouor res
ponded in a feeling and impressive man
