A Masonic Baptism.?A Washing
ton correspondent of the Baltimore Sun.
of Wednesday, writes as follows:
The novel ceremony of M isonio b ip
tisui was perf lined at Masonic Temple
last night by Albert Pike, Esrj , and
other prominent Scottish Kite Masons,
upon two children, sons of Dr. Joseph
Nairn aud Mr C Bi iMeGroty. Dr.
Nairn's child, an infant, was borne on n
cushion covered with blue silk, ami the
ceremony was made impressive by light
ed candles, burning intense, formalities
and paraphernalia of the exalted degrees
of tbe order, and there was u large at
tendance. Prayer, singing, etc., served
as an iutiuduetory, when tiie children,
their god uiotheis and others were ad
mit ted. Water, oil and salt were used
in the ceremony, (die left hands of the
children being dipped in a bowl of per
fumed Water, as a sign of dedication to
the service of virture and truth; a delta
was made on their head with the fore
linger dipped iu oil, as the symbol of
wisdom, power aud love of God; and
salt was placed iu their mouths, as the
seal of the Arabic vow, which sanctifies
an enemy with whom one has tasted salt.
Finally the children were invested with
lambskin apron- and Masonic jewels and
their Masonic baptism was pronounced
complete.
