A Cb icago papor told this pretty lit

such a tremendous freshet on the Uli
oois river, that it was for a long time
referred to as the "flood." During a
lawsuit iu Pooria, an old man named
Aiiaui, living in n >mn- huuiiui uu lite
river known as Paradise, was examined
as a witness.
"What is your name was tho first
question asked him.
"Adam, sir," said he.
"Your name is Adam, is it? Well,
where do you live?
*ln Paradise, sir."
"Oh, your uatne is Adam, and you
live in Paradise, do you ? Well, how
long have you lived there?" .
"Ever sinee the flood, sir," replied
the simple old man, whose words were
drowned in n roar of laughter, in which
the court, jury, connsel and spectators
all joined. A Peoria paper rejoins:
The only objection to this story is, no
euch remarkable pluvial occurrence
known as tho "flood," no such man ns
Adam, and such a thing novcr happened.
With Ibee? few excoptiouj, tho story is
correct.
