He will make a capital auo tioneer. We wish this trust-worthy firm overy success. A BtJ?ro?aTiow.--The Depot at Or angeburg is a disgrace to its growth and importance. A little, miserably built house, with no capacity either for the storing away of,goods, or the accommo dation of the travelirg public, wo would do better if our Town had no Depot at all. Does not every man that passes this place form an errenous idea of our growth and prosperity by looking upon that unsightly little cabin out at the railroad, yclept a Depot ? And yet Orangeburg does more shipping, and contributes more to the revenues of the road than any town in the interior of the State. For this she should have some) return. We have been up and down the line, and we have found better depots at little way stations. Now our suggestion is, that a meeting of our citizens be called, and a committee be appointed to peti tion the company to build us n better Depot. What say our merchants r" VVo verily believe that such a movctneut would result in giviug us better ac commodations than we can now boast of iu the way of a railroad depot. The Camden Journal ta a strung ad vocate of Temperance Societies. In its issue of the Oth inst., it says, "the army (of drunkards of course) is 'grow ing small by degrees,' the traffic in wine decidely less." Well, that docs pretty good, and sounds very like a coun< try newspaper local ; but the finishing touch to the paragraph iu question is better still. Here it is. Speaking of the Society, the Journal says, "There's room in the Division for more?so ??Sots who have so long-Aat;*! bled, Sots whom A'.-, has never fed, ?Welcome! and by Temperance led, Enjoy true liberty." The italics iu the poetry are ours Wo want to show our readers the beauty of the thing. Surely every man whose fortuno it should be to read th s stanza quoted, will be shamed iutu joining the Teuiperauec. The divine ujflatus was iu the man's heart (or pern) tint indicted that piece, sure. The niusea wore all perched upon the inkata and the peu dipped in poesy itself that inspired the Journal poet with the above verses.
