Judge Andrews' knack at soiling his own goods for liboral and fair prices, and yet to the satisfaction of bis many customers, eminently fit him for knock ing down those entrusted to hhn for sale. He will make a capital auo tioneer. We wish this trust-worthy firm every suoocm. ' A 8'dooESTioN.?The Depot at Or angeburg is a disgrace to its growth and importance. A little, miserubly built house, with no capacity either for the storing away of. goods, or the accommo dation of tho traveling public, wo would do better if our Town had no Depot at all. Does not every man that passes this pines form an crrcnous idea of uur growth and prosperity by looking upon that unsightly little cabin out at the railroad, yclept a Depot ? And yet Orangcburg does more shipping, aod contributes more to tho revenues of the road than any town in the interior of the State. For this she should huve some returu. We have been up aud down the line, and we have iouud better depots at littlo way stations. Now our suggestion is, that a meeting of our oitizens bo called, and a committee be appointed to peti tion the company to baild us a better Depot. What say our uierch^nta t Wc verily believe that such a tnoTcineut would result in giving us better ac commodations than we can now boa.-t of iu the way of a railroad depot. The Cainden Journal is a strong ad vocate of Temperance Societies. In its issue of tho Oth inst., it says, "the army (of drunkards of course) is 'grow ing small by degrees,' the traf?e iu wine j decidely less." Well, that does pretty good, and sounds very like a coun try newrpaper local; but the finishing I tottch to the paragraph in question is better still. Here it is. Speaking of the Society, the Journal says, "There's room in the Division for more?.so ??Sots who hace so Inng-Aac* bled, Sots whom Rum lias never fed, Wolcoine! nud by Temperance led, JSnjoy trua liberty." The italics in the poetry arc ours Wo want to sho'.v our readers the beauty of the thing. Surely every man whose fortuno it should be to read thi stanza quoted, will be shamed into joining the Temperance The divine ujjfUtlui was in the man's heart (or pen) tint indicted that piece, iure. The muses were all perched upou the inkstand, and tho peu dipped iu poesy itself that inspired the Journal poet with the above verses. Nothiug else could have produced such an irresistible invitation to tho followers of Bacchus, to enlist uod'T the Teinpj rauce banner. An eloquent pen indeed the hard iu question, can boast of.
