Washington, Nov. 8. ? Election summary ; Wisconsin elects a Republican Gov ernor and Legislature, Illinois elects a Republican Congress man at largo by f?om twenty-five to thirty thousand majority. Now Jersey elects a Democratic Gov ernor and probuly a Republican Legisla ture New York elects a Rcpblican State ticket and Legislature. Tammany Hall was not opoo last night. .The World says : "The returns from this State, which were unusually back ward this year, indicate the electiou of u Rebubliean tieket by at least twenty thou sand majority, and, as it never rains but it pours, the majority may bo even more than this. Wo have loft tho State Legis lature, and the Republicans will not full far short of a two thirds vote iu either House." The Tammany local ticket was rough ly handled by voters. Lcdwith was no ?-?vigi i IS eieeteil by about twen ty-siz thousand majority, over Chandler for Register. Bradly, Norton aud Genet will not visit Albany officially this year. Even Tweed, with no opposition worth mentioning, polled a light vote compared with thoue he formerly received. Seventy eight towns iu Minnesota give Austin, Republican, for Governor, 1,428 majority. Tammany elects o?Jy Tweed to the Senate. Only three of the twenty-two Assemblymen on the Reform ticket for tho county and city of New York were successful by large majorities. Outt Bankers Abroad.?Lato flies from European papers cotnuiont most favorable ou the appointment of the London firm of Heury Clews & Co., as bankers abroad for all foreign countries of the U. S. Government and the Treas ury Department in place of Baring Bros. It is true that no feoiing but utmost cordiality of spirit exists between these two representative backing houses. It is not true, that During Bros, havo transacted their busiucss with tho Goverument in an unsatisfactory man ner. On the coutrary, tho utmost good feeling has existed from tho beginning of th*> trust up to tho preseut time. It is truo that the government has confidence 'iu tho House of Henry Clews & Co., aud it is rather a testimo nial of confidence in their mnnucr of doing business, than a reward for servi ces rendered to tho government by Mr. Clews, that has secured the appointment of Henry Clews & Co., as our bankers abroad. Tbia house has risen rapidly in public confidence, until it has reached tho gov ernment, which nationalizes its popu larity by conferring the present appoint ment of Fiscal ageuts. Probity, tactv patriositm, and financial power thus get a compliment. 0 The duties of their position arc such, that it cannot but tend to give general confidence throughout this- country and in Europe to the name and credit of this leading banking bouse.
