Tho intelligent Republicans of Char
leston saw, that tho manner iu which a
certain, wing of tho {??arty, advanced their
plans, deserved for it a decent drubbing.
We need no stronger evidence of this
fact thau the manner in wbich the editor
of the Daily Republican voted. He
couldn't stomach the whole llepublicau
ticket, and voted ouly a portion of it.
This is u sufficient commentary on the
course purst sd by the cornscranta who
controlled tho Convention. We know
Myron Fox, aud wo know that he is a
noble, hard workiug aud. honest Repub
lican. We know his devotion to the
real iutorests of his party. But with
all? of his love, for broad and liberal
princinles. his scuso of honor, and re
speet for himself, prompted him to vote
for some on the Wagoner ticket. Aud
there are many ethers iu Charleston
who did tho same tiling. Thon why
will the press so distort tho truth of the
matter as to call it a Democratic vic
tory ? It was ouly a triumph of iutelli*
gence over ignorance, achieved by (hi
united notes of both partie* ; but made
more sure by seven hundred aud seventy*
seven Republican ballots.

Wo enjoyed a hasty trip to this place
last week. J die's monotony of duties
aud avocations urc always .pleasantly iu
torruptcd by these little trips. Espe
cially iu this the dull scusou of heat and
quiet, is it a pleasure to break away
from the rotitino of employment for a
brief interlude. Mos. vu-tieularly pleas
ant is it to visit our beautiful town, our
Aiken. The beauties, and advantages
of .this delightful place we just begin
ning to be kuowu and appreciated as they
should be. Those id our people who
seek a resort for .Summer rest, for health
and pleasure, need not go to Long
Brauch or Saratoga. Wj have Aiken,
equal to any uf* llicin in all respects, and
superior in poiut of health. The salu
brious and health-giving advantages of
ti?is place have become known, tested
and admitted by ''thousands of visitors,
and its reputation has been establishesi
and must spread, at home and abroad,
iiicro ate two hotels here kept iu the
best style and affording all tue advanta
ges, comforts and luxuries that can be
offered or desired.
The "Aiken Hotel" especially is a'
model. Its proprietor, John Ryan, is u
most worthy host. Courteous, polite
mi auxious for the comfort of his guests,
bis vtcuajc is perfect. None leave his
hospitality unsatisfied or displeased'. In
a word, he knows how and docs keep
?no of the best Hotels iu the South.
Aikon is a growing nnd pretty towu.
The Couuly-scat of the New County of
Aikcn, its business advantages will soon
be equal to its beauty and the health
fulucssofits Jiuiate. It will bo the
bijon of the State.
Aud it has its Newspaper. The
Aikcn Jonrtud owned aud edited by
John S. Shuck, Esq., is one of thu
liveliest and most enterprising of our
State papers. Fully imbued with a
pride, nud iutercst iu tin welfare of his
Town and County, and most hopefully
sanguiuc of its future prosperity and
greatness, Friend Shuck breathes his
spirit into tho columns of his paper.
It circulates lurgely iu tho Couuty and
~ .' 2....... lutuuuuu on iuc growing
interests of the people.
Nature has done everything for Alken.
She ucods but one thing to secure her
rapid growth and prosperity, und that
is a good "Town Couucil," v. ho have
its interest at heart, nnd who uro intel
ligent citizcus ?f broad views and cx
pausivo energy. This secured, now,
would be a groat point for Aiken.
Our trip, as we said, was hast}', but
so pleasant that we intend to repeat it.
We advise all our readers who want a
summer resort, and who can break away
from their duties for p brief season, to fly

ful, nud delightful Aikcn.
