AN ACT to regulate the Agencies of Insu
rance Companies not incorporated In
the State of South Carolina.
Section 1, Beit en:tct(tl by the Semite
and Hollge of Representative of the State of
South Carolina, uow met and sitting in
General Assembly and hy the authority
of the same, That it shall not bo lswful
after the first day of April, one thousand
eight hundred nod sixty-nine, for any
agent or any Insurance company In the
Utitted States, or any foreign State, incorpo
rated by the laws of this State, to take risks
or transact any business of Insurance in this
State without first obtaining license from the
Comptroller jB?eral, which license shall ex
pire on the aist day of March of each yenr. -

SrctioH 1. Do it enacted' by tbo Senate
and House of Representatives of the Stale of
South Carolina, now met and sitting in Gen
eral Assembly, and by the authority of the
snme: Nu Company or Association which
is now organized, or which *aay bo hore.it
tcr organized in thi* State, to carry on the,
business of insurance of any kind or kinds,
shall proceed further with business (us the
case may be) until they have deposited with
the Comptroller Uencrtil of this Siale bonds
or stocks of tili? State equal to the sum of
filtv thousand dollurs rar value for each Life
Insurance Company or Association, nud
twenty thousand dollars par value for uuoh
other Insurance Company or Association.
Tho Comptroller Geueral shall hold such
bonds or stocks us.security for policy holders
in the Company or Association; but, so long
as any Company or Association so depositing
shall continue solvent, the Coinptroller Gen
eral uity permit *uoh Company to collect
and receive the interest on such bonds or
I stocksso deposited.
Sr.c. 2. Whenever any Company or Asso
ciation is, or shall become fully organised,
and the said Company or Ass ciation havo
deposited with the Comptroller G>n?r?l tlic
requisite amount of Stato bonds or stocks, it
shall become bis duty to furnish tho Corpora
tion or Association with a certificate of such
deposit, which certificate or duplicate thereof
certified by the Comptroller General, in iy be
used in and be evidence for and against the
Corporation.
Six. 8, It shall not be lawful for any per
son or persona, Corporation of Corporations,
Association or Associations to net within this
State as agent, or otherwise, in receiving or
procuring applications for insurance of any
kind or kinds, or iu any manner to aid in
transacting the business of insurance of any
kind or kiudfc for any Company or Associa
tion incorporated by, or organized under the
laws of this or any other State Oovcrnm'eut,
or any foreign Government, until such Com
pany or Association hfk<* deposited with tho
Comptroller General of this State, for the
benefit of the policy holders of such Com
