or DISSOLVED RONE PHOSPHATE, is the basis of aft good Fertilizers, and these are*
valuable in the ratio of Soluble Phosphoric Asid which is in them.
The immense deposits of Bhos] hntic Guanos which were discovered in 1807, in South
Carolina, by Dr. PRATT, consist mainly >.f Insoluble Phosphate of Lime, which is made
available n-' a Fertilizer by being ground to powder, and reduced by Sulphuric Acid to such'
a condition us to make its insoluble ; ho.ph.ite .-..'.u* :.? in w it r. ami thus made capable of
being taken up by growihg plants. '1 'he insoluble Phosphate found in any commercial For-*
tiliier is of no mot e value to the plant than the original Phosphat0 rock. The greater tha'

quired per acre, and consequently the clieapest Fertiliser is that containing the highest per
centnge of Soluble Phosphate.
