evsuiug at about aioe o'clock, a chimney
at the Treadwell Hotel caught fire, and
biased theatebiogly out at the top. The
Fire Companies were promptly en the
ground and . the roof, and it was soon
extinguished.
It would perhaps be cheaper to keep
vur chimneys clean than to be burnt out.
At a Regular Meeting or the Inds
pendant Young Amcrcia Fire Engine
Company, held at Firemans Hall March
9th, 1870 the following resolutions were
passed.
Resolved, That the thanks of this
Company be returned to the ladies of
Orangeburg for the beautiful mannet,
and exquisite taste displayed in de
corating nur Engine on Anniversary day.
Resolved, That our thanks be returned
to Messrs L. Rausdale, and A. Murvin,
for their assistance on that day.
Resident, That the thntiks of the Clin
pany be tendered to Mr. Jas. Cannon,
for the sumptions supper, and kind
attention on anniversay day.

The Thespian Corps as announced
gave their first entertainment on Th?rs
day evening. Although the weather was
unpleasant they had a very fine andienet:
to greet, them. The Corps went through
their programme admirably, and give
promise of high attainment in their parts.
Thestage, scenery, foot lights, curtains,
and costumes arc perfect. Their pcrfor
anre is well worth a visit. At their
next concert, which will be duly an
nounced, let all whu can, come to Orange
b rg and attend.

Mr. Smith will be here but a week
