The weather was very cold and dis>
agreeable, and the skies looked as if they
were ready as on a former occasion to

former occasion.
The Sheriff, and the Assignees were
busy, and sold about 10,134 acres of land
for about $14000.
They were a great many mules aud
horses exposed for sale, there being about
- nine '-bunches of stock" in Town. About
thirty head were sold and brought fair
prices.
The lot with dwelling thereon, Amelia
fit. estate of S M. Konuerly, was sold
for 8700.
The lot adjoining the same, 3 acres
brought S3G0, and tho lot corner of
Aredia and Broughton St., one and a
half acres brought $115.

Improvements.?The march of pro
gressive enterprise and improvement in
Orangeburg is utill onward and upward,
for sevoral new buildings have gone up
in the last mouth. Mr. Trcadwull bus
put up a new store on Main Street which
is well filled by Mr John Davis with a
stoek of goods. A few doors above, Mr.
M. Albrcciit has erected a neat shop in
which he is at work at the shoe business,
tissisted by several good workmen. This
building did spring up almost in a night,

rapidly put up. the purpose of the place
\> to secure to its customers a go-id "mi
dorstaiiding," and it is Wei! supplied with

dent of Educutiou shows that 168,819

now having it laid out in lots with broad
streets and avenues. It is Mr. Stewart's
intention to build a village.

Bnatern papers speak of the probability
of the failure of the ice crop on the At
lantic scacoast. Iu this vicinity no ice
has as yet been packed this winter. The
probability is that the country generally
will have to rely upon the northwest for
its supply next summer. The Upper
Mississipi furnishes excellent ico every
winter, and the packers ot that region
have a prospect for a ready market. Ice
dealers of this city thiuk there will not
be enough | ut up here this winter to
supply the demand of the city, and that
thoy will have to look to the north for
