More than five thousand pounds of
sour milk curd, were used in Chicago
last year, as a combining agent for colors,
hy the manufacturers of days.< By the
use of acids tho curd is transformed into
an adhesive substance which is a combin
ing agent for different colors. Without
it, they oould not be printed on cotton
or woolen tissues to remain perfectly fast
thereafter.
A drunken Indian, on visiting the
city, having strayed from his hotel,
found himself lost on trying* to return to
it. After looking about in strange
lodges here und there, the Indian ex
claimed in dismay, "Injuu lost!" But,
recovering himself and unwilling to ac
knowledge such short-sightedness, con
tinued, drawing himself up :?"No,
Injun not lost.?wigwam lost?Injun
hare." Not a few men who are not
Indians have lost their wigwams in the
aame fashion?but, pool fellows they nre
?hern.
There flourishes in a flourishing village
of Western New York a Mrs.-, one
of those good-natured people who have
a genorous scorn of details, ni.d believe
on all occasions in giving it good effect
to their conversation. At one of the
periodic tea-parties to which the village
is fubject, she was entertaining tho com
pany with nn account of a meat astonish
ing hog which her father had fattened
to the enormous woight of six thousand
pounds! Quito n murmur of surprise
went around the room, during which her
husband suggested, "Oh, no, my dear, it
waa six hundrod pounds." "Why,
Jeremiah," said she, in disgust, "the
akin weighed that."
The Massachusetts Ploughmuj^says :

mer to coltivato roots. Thoy are very
useful as a change oi feed in winter,
The cattle do better and they require
less hay. No farmer should go into the
winter without roots."
Mr O, A Wylio, of Chester, informs
the Reporter that he has the. year

one-fourth of an aero.
A Cincinnati paper in its money mar
ket gives, as an evidence of the scarcity
