estimable wifo of Mr. Jus. Van Tassell,
died at her residence in our Town on
Friday the 24th ult., of typhoid fover.
A loving wife, a kind friend, and a
mother to the mothorless. None know
her but to esteem her.
Her husband aud relatives have our
sincere sympathy iu this their bereave
ment.

( A Telegraph Office at Orange?
BUBO.?We have spoken to several of
our leading merchants of the advantage
aud feasibility of establishing a Tele
graph Office at this place. The experi
ment has been tried once or twice al
ready, but failed on account of tho means
employed. Wc believe that if negotia
tions for the establishment of of an office
were entered iuto between our merchutits
directly with the Telegraph Company",
that every fucility would be afforded to
us. It would cost something ; perhaps
the salary of the Operator. But would
not this pay our merchants, in giving
them the daily quotations of the Cotton
markets ? Have they not lost enough
iu their cotton transactions in the lost
two weeks to pay for an office huro ?

Church on next Saturday. Several dis
tinguished Divines are expected to bo

Our County Treasurer gives notice
that tho Tax Books will be closed on
the 15th inst. Persons who have not
paid their tax had better do so before
that time, and save themselves 25 per
cent.
Rev. D. F. Spigooor informs us that
has been uppointed Agent for the sale of
"Potters Pictorial Edition of the Holy
Bible." Ho is givon tho exclusive right
to dispose of tho work in Orangeburg
County, aud will visit every family.
