Attention is invited to the article of the New berry Immigration Socioty, on our first page. The Assessors are now engaged in this county assessing for taxation person al property. The law requires that the job shall be completed by the 1st Mon ?day iu October. Tux payers will bear in mind that if their returns aro not ?made by that time, the law imposes 50 per cent, penalty on tho valuation. The present assessment has nothing to do with real properly further than on im provements and losses whore cithor amount to $100. Assessors who think parties place too low an estimate on their property, we hope will have the man liness to raise it iu tho presence of the owners. We have received tho proceedings and description of the Suudny School cele tbration at Autioch Church, which we will insert rn our next. It has been crowded out this week. The horso that was advertised in our last as stolon, was recovered on Monday ; the thief was also captured nnd is uow In our jail. The same individual was tried not long ago befure Judge Curpen ter for stealing a steer, and acquitted. SorxiiKitN Land and Immigration Society.?The Constitutional Cnion, tho Editor of which is President of the above company, established at Washing ton, speaks fully in a recent article of the purposes of the society. "The solo* purpose of tho company is to promote tho interests of the South by iuducing immigrants of the best material to come and settlo in hor territory, and thus to counteract and balauce the influence und numbers of thoso political adveutu rers, who are in our midst. Accurate advertisements of the lands for sale, with their advantages and terms, will be kept before the public j and every facility will bo afforded as to transportation to per sons wjjling to come and purchase; trustworthy aud 'intelligent gentlemen will bo sent to Europo to represent tho advantages of our country, and to in duce, and organize immigration. The Company asks tho aid of Southern laud ownors to carry out its beneficial objects. As tho Chester Democrat, ?ays upon this very enterprise, "many of our citizens arc professing to be anxious to sell their .lands." Now this the means offered to them to do so. It must cost something to advertise properly their lauds; but it will richly repay us to dispose of them and to do our State a service, by in ducing this immigration of the right kind.
