WAITING AM) D BE AIIMO.
THE LAY OF AN UNREQUITED LOVE.
^'feM?O-aOrTAairgHI. SMGH Ait)S039
.Olf41i ;'. . ^ \ ^ t" ' , . u.f I I JiO?I?U ?/
I waited once for the spring to come
On joyous, wing from its southern home, .
tfffitfixi^ ? ? }| ^^hibI*
And eagerly watched for its blooming feeC;
For I knew where to find the wind-flowers sweety
And tbe nooks where the violets grew.
Ami I waited, too, f?r my roses bright . , mjju_
To unfold their leaves in the summer light:
Waej one bud fairor than all the rest,
One that I loved by far tbe best.
** a
And guarded with tenderest eare.
Ah! never was breast than mine more lorn
Or bitterer tear-drops shed,
_ I found that a worn its heart had tern.
And my rose wss scathed end dead.
II.
r' * . I waited again for my "life" to bloom?
I dreamed by night, sad morn, end, noon
If; \J\ .. .S>* i%* flower that would be so fair;
It haunted my thoughts, and grew to be,
-. With Its deep end hidden mystery,
Its untold treasures rare,
3Z-J& ijl, ?' The one .great end, to which my soul
Looked forth as to a fceppy goal. "
U ?
Ah! would that the mystic chain
Which my fancy wove, end whose magic gleams.
Were forever shinning in my dreams,
Might coroo to as again !
I watched for the morning light to shine
On this rsre and radiant flower of mine,
Whose blossom would soon be blown ;
The.sun roso fair,?but his earliest ray
Chased otery dream of hope away?
Ht f*#s *db#? The joy of my life wsh flown:
For cold despair with s poisoned dart
Transfixed my flower to its.inmost heart;
And my lips made moan, made moan.
* . * T 0 D
I had raised.me an airy castle in the morning soft and bright j
An? my heart bed climbed with eager feet, up its winding-stair of light;
I know its walls were built but of rainbow, and mist, and cloud,
Yet still on its topmost turret I had waited secure and proud;
Wsited end watched for ""him," whom my soul long yearned to greet,?
Wedded ths trumpet sound, that should herald his coming feet,
IfaetejuOHt was twin to mine; sad I thought,?Ah ! foolish jne!
TWttrisVssIl HlVJshstbnUded, the joy of "his" life would be;
Thai together we ehould wander through its halls so grand and fair;
That his touch would cbsnge my rainbows to arches of jewels rare;
And. that all my filmly dream-work, beneath his gentle tread,
And the glanee of his wondrous eyes, would be gold of burning red.
IT.
He came at lsst!
I saw tbe halo round bis brow,.
And heard the sound that thrills ma now?
His bugle blast. ?
Oh ! it was hsrd ;
I stretched my arms to hies with one wild cry:
But with a cold, eold glance, be passed me by,
? No sign of recognition in his eye?
No loving word!
. My esstie fell;
Its shining bowers of mist dissolved in tearsj I
For thst otto glsnea dissolved the dream of years?
??Farewell'. Farewell!"
My poor heart cried,
As crushed and broken on the ground 1 lay :
Bleeding and bruised, it moaned its life sway,
And died.
As
Dreaming no more of him,
I am waiting now in the twilight dim.
For an angel's voice and hand,
To tell me the longings of life are past.
And guide te that happier home at last,
In the far-off sunset land.
1 dream of thai region so bright and fair,
1 dream of that bliss that shall meet me there.
Where my flower shall bloom again ;
1 wait for the joys of the life divine,
Where angels' loving hearts shall twine .
Their tendrils around this heart of mine;
And I shall not wait in vain.

Thk Law or Divorce.?The Green
ville Enterprise says:
Judge Orr has rendered an adverse
decision in tho case of John H. Walker
vs. Mary J. Walker, petition for divorce.
The case baa been held under considera
tion since last courv( and the legal pro
fession will be indebted to the Judge for
the very learned and able opinion in the
case. We have examined thin opinion ;
it will form a land-mark in future case....
The Judge distinctly indicates that the
Court of Equity of th|p State always had
the power to exercise jurisdiction in dt
voree cases. vYe have long been of the
opinion, notwithstanding the uuifojm
disclaimer* of the Judge, ahd have al
ways believed that a Court of Equity
could and ought to have granted divorces
Wbero there existed the bcripWal justi
fication. It is manifest that Judge Orr
would restrict the granting of divorces
to oases or the most aggravated character,
and he would not suit Chicago or the
State of Connecticut.
