An Original St-.ry, by Pavsan, writ ten for the Oranoeburo News, will appear in our next. It is well written, and elicits much interestthroughout. It ?will bo well received, wo kuow, as coming from tho pen of a young Orangeburgiun of considerable talent, for whom we predict sure success iu the field of fic tion. A Most Outraue?ui Proceedino. ^?On Wednesday night lust the Post S/race at this place wus broken into and completely sacked. The letters and pa pers strewn promiscuously on tho floor, ?nd mostly torn in two, aud otherwise anutilated. This transaction is undoubtedly one of spite. Spito! but spite sadly misap propriated. It injures the community ?t large and misses the object aimed at, that of injuring the prcseut Postmaster, T. K. Sasportas. The appointment of Sasportos by tho > Postmaster-General, us Postmaster at this place, though caus ing some little ill-feeling, with a few, Tins generally been quietly acceded to, tiud things were working us well us could be expected, the P. M. attending to his business politely and gentlemanly. The miscreant who broke iuto the office to vent his cowardly spito against him, is no better than ho should be, und if there is any chance in tho world of fer reting out the perpetrator of this cowurd ly action, and bringing him to punish ment, it will bo made use of. A lurgc circle of country suffers from this destruction of letters and pupers, and wo hear it denounced generally by our citizens as a cowardly transaction. The office was entered through a side "window, by cutting a pane of glass from the sash. The office clock was broken to pieces and carried across the street -and throwu into tho church lot. There was no money iu the office, und with the ?exception of a few packages of stumped envelopes the perpetrator carried nothing away, as far as is known. Tho intent was persecution, evidently, not robbery?aud the sooner' such characters go up the better tor the peace aud quietness of the country. We have said thut .Orangeburg County ?was the best reconstructed County in the State and \ve still say it. This is ?wc arc certain, the first low and unman ly act of a political nnturc, that bus as yet occurred in our midst, nnd it is al most unanimously condemned by our citizens' as an act below the brutal in stincts of a depravod nature, and shows cvidontly a very weak hand. Mr. Silcox aud his work, however, aro too well and fnvoruble known to our people, for us to pretend to puff 'cither, but ho has added to his stock in trade the Einstig Sponge, a preparation for ninking Pillows, Beds, &c., which we must say appears to us to be a good thing It is soft and cli ttic, clean and light, and cheap. Hon. Horace Greclcy iu writing of this preparation, says : "I duly received the Bed and Pillows, and found them nil right?at least I could suggest no improvement. 1 enjoy them thoroughly ; I am reudy to pay for them uud to be quoted as one of their admirers."
