Ei.oi )i'kmknv in Hum LiF?.?The English and Irish papers of recent dato contain the following accouut of the elopement of an Irish Marquis with the wife of a (Joverument ''< official in high standing: 41A most extraordinary piece of scandal in kigh lifo has just come to light?namely, the elopement of the wife of Captain Vlviun with the Marquis of watcrford. The gallant Cap tain is a Lord of the Treasury and member of j Parliament for Truro. For some time past the lady's name has been mentioned in connec tion with the partner of her flight, and her disappearance was not wholly unexpected. She left her home on Monday morning, alleging that she intended to proceed to Brighton to see her mother, and would re turn the aume evening. As, however, she failed to make her appearance, Captaiu Vivian proceeded to the Victoria station, aud there ascertained that the Marquis of watcrford and Mrs. Vivian had tho previous morning taken tickets for Paris by way of Dover, accompanied by a friend. He followed them to the French capital, and soon found the object of his search at a well-known hotel. Mrs. Viviau heard of her husband's arrival, aud locked herself up in an inner chamber. Captain Vivian, however, succeeded in obtaining assis tance, and burst open ' the doors. He then ascertained that Mrs. Viviau had attempted to commit suicide by swallowing chloroform. The quantity taken wns not, however, suffi cient to cause more than partial insensibility. Captain Vivian is understood to have implored his wife to return for the sake of her children, of whom there are four, but that she peremp torily refused, although her husband assured her that her escapade should be kept a pro found secret. The lady, however, remained firm in her determination not to rcturu to the shelter of her home, but pleaded that she might be allowed to retain her youngest child. This request Captain Viviau declined to comply with, ami returned to London without having encountered the Marquis of watcrford. The hitter has, it is believed, caused u com munication to be made to Captain Vivian that when the Judge Ordinary of the Divorce Court shall have dissolved the legal ties which now prevent his marrying Mrs. Vivian ho will, as a man of honor, make her the only compensation in his power. Meantime Cap tain Vivian has left town, and will nut return to his place in the House of Commons until his prcscuce is required for the division on the second reading of the bill fur the abolition of the Irish Church." _ fet i - Rkmaukan;.r. Mariuaue.-Betrothkd to ?Three Brothers.?The Americas {Georgia) Courier relates the particulars of a ense in that county m which the bride was betrothed to three brothers, and married to two of them, which is rather remarkable: On the Cth of August, 1SCG, a young man came to Am eric us and procured license to marry an estimable young litdy, residing several miles from this city, went home, and was married iu the afternoon ot that day. He was attacked by a congestive chill, which terminated in his death tho following Satur day, the stricken bride following his remains to their ht.st resting place, clothed in the same suit in which her heart had been mndc glad by becoming his bride. On the following August (1867,) the se cond brother of tho same family came to Americus cor the same purpose which had brought the deceased one year previous. On bis way homo, rejoicing in happy anticipation of making the worthy widow of his lost brother his own bride, he was caught in a heavy rain, and arrived at home with his clothing thorough ly saturated, from which he was taken with a congestive chill the same evening and died the evening previous to the marriage, which was to have taken place che following Subbath. Again, instead of listening to tho merry ringing of the marriage bells, the death knell was heard and a funeral procession took the pluce of the marriage feast. But the most interesting feature of this remarkable bugg is the lovclyncss of their natures. They can't bite nor sting nor skratch, nor even jaw back. They are so amiable that I have even known them tew get stuck iu the butter, and hy there all day, and not holler for help, and acktually die at last with a broken heart. Another disconsolate lover has committed murder aud suicide in Newark, N. J. His name is Frederick Kncttel, and he was en gaged to be manicd to a Miss Augusta Bcckcrlc. ShQ is of respectable parentage, aud her family are in good circumstances. He has been engaged to her for years, hut bor father having some time ago left for Germany, after their betrothal, the young man's suit was interfered with by Mrs. Bcckcrle. This, added to the railings of his friends, made tum des perate; he neglected his business and became almost insane. The difference between the two young" lover* increased every day, urged on as it was by tho mother's aversion for the young man. On Tuesday last Miss Bcckcrlc returned him presents he had made her. This mode him desperate, and on Sunday last he went to her house requiring an explanation, and asked her if she believed he would allow her to marry any one else. She told him to dismiss that matter, whereupon he sent a bullet through her brains and then shot-him self dead. She died Monday morning. Scene in a Cuuiich.?On Sunday List, in Chicago, at the Jesuits' Church, the congrega tion was astounded by the sudden appearance at the altar of a young man named Martin Ivor}', who engaged in an altercation with the officiating priest. He iuformcd tht priest, the Rev. Father Damon, that he was an impostor, and taking hold of him, endeavored to fore* him from tho altar. Several peoplo iu the congregation rushed in and seized Ivory and handed him over to the police. It is thought that he is hopelessly insane. A Love Tuaordy.?In Boston, March 25th, a young man named Prico shut Miss Howard, inflicting a wound which is feared will prove niortel, and thon shot himself dead. Rejected luve is supposed to have been the cause of this terrible act. Both were about tweuty years of age, aud were respectably con nected. Maoried.?Miss Mary Grant, of Rich mond, Vs., was married in that city on Thurs day last, tu a Mr. Ford, of Goochlaud county, Va.
