We made a flying visit to our Capital a few days since. We bad not the pleasure of see ing his Excellency Governor Scott, though we danced*attendance for an hour or so. We, however, hid a pleasant and agreeable chat with his Secretary, Mr. Heart. Our impres sion of this fine old gentleman is, that he is the right man its the right place, and wc must congratulate our worthy Governor for his fore sight snd judgment in the selection of so worthy a man Co carry his portfolio. We had- the pleasure of greeting our esteem ed fricueT Captain Parker, the Honorable State Treasurer. Who even amidst the rush of business?it being the last day of the Ses sion?found time to please us in his chat. Our interview with the Secretary of State and the Comptroller-General, were pleasant and satisfactory. These gentlemen were also much prassed with business, but their arrange ments were so wisely made and governed, that a visitor could not feel himself an intruder. We?*e*e sorry to find our friend, and Hon orable Senator, Major Jus. A. Green, on a bed of affliction. He has suffered severely for the last month from Hemorrhage of the lungs. We sre glad to state, however, that he is slow ly recovering, and if no relapse takes place, ex pects to be here in the course of the week. The General Assembly adjourned time, die on the 24th inst. T. K. Sasportaa, .Representative from this County iif the Oeoeral Assembly, has been ap pointed Postmaster at this place. Hobo, at the Orangcburg County Hotel, kept by Sheriff Ripgs, who administers the hospitalities of his House with credit -to him self and we presume satisfactorily to his guest But in consequence of several of his patrons leaving a short time since for parts unknown. We learn that an Order has boon applied for snd obtained from his Honor Judge Carpen ter, requiring Sheriff Rigg* to deliver the body of Mr. Young S. Bobo to the Sheriff of Rid - land County for safe keeping. Mr. Bobo will I carry with him our wishes that he find his new quarters comfortable. ? I IIMI ?? ??? Easter.?Kosher is a movable feast, being the first Sunday after the full moon whieh hap pens upon or next after the twenty-first day of March' (the Vernal equinex). Easter is so called from the Saxon "Oster," to rise, being the day oommemorativc of Christ's resurrection; or, as others think, from the Teutonic goddess Ostcra, whose feast was cele brated early id spring. A Proclamation has been issued by Gover nor Scott, directing all needful measures to be taken to carry into effect the recent set of the General Assembly, for the removal of the county seat of Barn well County from Barn* well to the Town of Blsckrille. South Carolina Loan and Trust Com pany.?Particular attention is invited to the advantages which thia Institution swords to parties who desire to invest their funds tem porarily. The ability to use such funds at short notice, and at the same time to derive interest there on, is thus amply secured. DlttKCTJoxs FOR USE.?Rhodes' Super Phosphate, the old and long established stand ard manure, can be used either broadcast or in the hill, or with the teetl in the drill?in no ii(.stance is it to be ploughed under a sod, nor bedded upon. Iu case of re-planting or backward growth, Rhodes' applied as top-dressing produces speedy growth?tV </oos not fire. Exposure is of great advantage, as it absorbs ammonia from the atmosphere, rain aud dew?it being estab lished that a large quantity of ammonia per acre is evolved during the year from these sources. An application of two hundred pounds per acre is considered sufficient for crops, but ex perienced j Luters report three hundred pounds per acre as repaying the outlay?high man uring, on a few acres, being the most desirable under our changed labor system. Professor Cbatlcs U. Shepard, in a recent paper, says : ''The planter will never obtain the best ef fects of artificial fertilisers until he incorpo rates them largely with composts of stable manure, vegetable muck and wood ashes. The idea of trusting to a few hundred pounds to the acre of even the best fertilisers seems next to absurd to the Northern or European agriculturist, who thinks nothing of enriching the same area with ten or fifteen tons of a sound compost." A well known author hung up his stocking in jest last Christmas Eve, aad his wife, very much in earnest, put a baby in it; whereupon the author said : "My dear, darn that stock ing."
