to the People of Florida,
We 'givV below the" high-toned, bold, and
yot very discreet address which has just been
issued to the terribly abused people of Fla. by
Chief Justice DuPont. It is worth a careful
I perusal by tho oitixens of every State in the
Union, hut especially by those oi the South,
now under the heel of tho Mongrel dospots.
.Tho outraged people there will tako fresh cour

reading this address. Such wise counsel can
not fail to bring firth good fruits:

ccted the ship of state, is no longer at the
helm?his place is now occupied by another.
This change was accomplished by force of an

this Military District. Tho same ordor which

I have only seen by accident), requires that
nil civil officers of tlie State, "shall promptly

I did, I have nothing to "yield" or "turn over,"

I cannot and will not "yield" but at your
behest. .Circumstanced, howevor, as I am,
deprived of the aid of tho Executive to sus

privilege of one who has spout his entire man
hood in your midst, (covering a period of

friendly advice. In the first place, I counsel
you to yield, not for ono moment, to the
demoralizing influenco of gloom or despond
ency, tho instincts of the coward, but patiently
endure the wrongs which now oppress you,
with that firm resolve, that uncunquerablo
will, that heroic fortitude, which becomes tho

consummating' some great moral problem, not
unfrequently makes use of the wicked as ins
truments of Iiis power.
I counsel you, in the second place, to real
lize the fact, that the "war of sections" is at an
end, and that the great majority of those with

conflict, siucerclv desiro the speedy restora
tion of that friendly relation and, brotherly
love which formerly characterized the inter
course between the two sections of the Union.
To those, therefore, of your follow citizens,
whether of the North, Eust or West, who may
visit our Stato, either for recreation or with

extend the right hnnd of fellowship?meet
them with the- cordiality of rpstorcjl friend
ship?eamje them to* feel that they uro woleom

our beautiful and lovely land to tho prosperity
whiph it once enjoyed. Bo assured that the
day of your deliverance draweth near, for
oven now the voice of the nation is oonocn
tratimr, and will soon proclaim in thunder
tones your emancipation from foreign rule,
and the restoration of that priceless boon?the
right of self-government! The poople of the
United States have been too well schooled in
the principles of free government to tolerate
for any length of time "despotism," cither
military or civil, whether that civil despotism
be the despotism of an individual or that of

which you owe to yourselves, to jour families,
to your country, and to the cause of human
ity, to lend your every influence to the preser

of the "logic of coming events," careful, how
