Firemen's Fair.
The ladies of this placo will open a Fair on
the 21?t of next month, for the benefit of the
firemen, to assist in completing tho New En

; The Town Election.
On last Monday, the regular electiou for
Intendant und W?rdons of Orangeburg took
place. At an early hour, crowds, of dusky
<itizeti$ could be observed around the Engine
House, waiting for the opportunity to deposit
their votes.
After a time, those who wero town residents
enjoyed the expected privilege: . and we are
glad to report that more than one-half of them
came to the conclusion to vote with tho white
people, and acted accordingly. The election
passed off very harmoniously, with tho follow
ing result:

The Weather cud the Crop*
T'^n, last Wednesday night, there was a -sud
den change of the weather from the ?utonse >hokt,
?of Summer to tho chilliness of Autumn. TW
?codi: weather continues still. On Friday morn
ing, !?bo thermometer stood at 58?.
As regards the crops, we hear reports of
further ravages by tho caterpillur, in the cot
ton ifiolda. In some localities, the birds are
doing planters good service, destroying these
insects in great numbers. The extensive use
of fowling pieces by the negroes, however, has
made birds scarce in some sections; and the
few surviving of the fcathcrly tribe arc unc
to tho occassion.

find the following statement, concerning the
Democracy, of Williamuburg District:

The ladies of New Orleans aro doing good,
service in the present campaign, and frequent
presentations of banners are made by them to
Democratic Clubs. Women's rights in the
South mean the redressing t>f woman's wrongs.

The first part of the week now under review, our
market was very quiet, with n declining tendency
in prioes. On Wednesday, however, there was a
larger attendance of buyers in tho market, with
sales of some 140 bales at steady prices. On Thurs
day with improved accounts from abroad, holders
became firmer, and advanced their asking rates.
