James Kctcham, left for Columbia on Thursday last. Of Sergt. Ketch am, and of the detachment while under his orders, we can only speak with unqualified commendation. Their discipline was well pre served, and their duties at this place were faith I fully discharged. "We deem it eminently pro sper to record this iu their favor, in such marked contrast to the behavior of au officer of the same Regiment, iu his intercourse with our citizens. The Ladies' Mutual Aid Association of Charleston. !Wc commend to the attention and patronage of our readers, the advertisement under the above caption which wo elsewhere publish. Tho objects of the Association should en list fur it the sympathies of all who are disposed to foster or assist philanthropic enterprises. 1 Giving employment to numbers of destitute ladies, many of them tho wives, mothers or daughters of our fellow Confederate soldiers, it relieves them from absolute penury, and en ables them to secure a support for themselves and their dependent families. We hope that those wishing to purchase ready made under-clothing, or any of the other articles mentioned in the advertisement, or who have orders for nccdlc-work will not for got this association und its just claims for their patronage. Riicy presented us with two cotton bolls, taken at random from a small patch near his rcsideuce, which were the first vc have received in the office this season. On July 7th,*?Ir. Dojnpsy Gardner exhibi ted a boll very nearly full-grown, which^camo from his plantation, and was a fair representa tive of his prospects. YVc arc glad to hear from all parts of the District, very favorable accounts of cotton and corn.
