ARTICLE XIII.
MILITIA.
Section 1. '1 he militia of this State shall con- j
sist of all able-bodied mulo citizens of .the
State, between the ages of eighteen and forty
Gvc years, except such persons ns arc now. or
may hereafter be exempted by the laws of f c
United States, or who may be adverse to bear
ing arms, as provided for in this constitution;
and shall be organized, armed, equipped und
disciplined as the General Assembly may by
law provide.
Section 2. The Governor shall have power
to call out the militia to execute the laws, re
pel invasion,'repress insurrection and preserve
tho public peace.
Section ii. There shall bo an Adjutant and
Inspector-General elected by the qualified elec
tors of the State, at tho same time and in the
same manner as the other State officers, whe
shall rank as a Brigadier-General, and whose
duties aud compensation shall bo prescribed by
law. The Governor shall appoint, by and with
the advice and consent ol tho Senate, such
other staff officers as the General Assembly
may direct.
