A'New Story.,
We will publish next week, an ORIGINAL
NOUVELKTTE, entitled
Watching and Waiting,
It is an exceedingly interesting and thrilling
Btory, the production of a gifted pen, which we
trust will be often employed for the instruction
nnd entertainment of our readers.
We prepare them in advance for a pleasure,
which we know they will enjoy as wo have
dono, in the perusal of this choice contribution
to our District literature.

j The Crops.
Wo have had rather too much rain for Cot
ton during the past week. It is expected how
ever, that the crop will exceed that of last year
considerably.. ....
In response to tho Darlington correspondent
of tho Charleston Mercury, we would mention
that Mr. Isaac Jenuings, in tho Fork of Edis
to, 'foas counted over two hundred forms on
one stalk of Cotton, and has numerous stalks
averaging over one hundred each. To Mr.
JexninOS and Mr. George S. Siurer belong
the credit of bringing tho first open bolls of
cotton to this place this year.
The Corn Crop is about made, and accounts
arc as favorable as wo have predicted.
Town Improvements.
Wc are going; to liavo a Town Market, loca
ted at tho corner *>f St. John and Middlcton
Streets. The building is now in process of
erection.
.. .' . ? ?
1 Tho Board of Commissioners of Public Build.
inga, wc have heard, arc about to erect on the
Court House lot, a brick building for the Dis
trict officers.
Mr. jf^obert "Jenkey has contributed, to
the artistic embellishment of our Town, a fine
statuette in wtfod, which wc know will delight
the eyes of all equ'estrian connoisseurs with its
model proportions.
Iron Cotton Ties.
' The planters of tho Stave are becoming gen
erally interested in this subject; and wc would
stato that we have on exhibition At our office a
specialen of tho "Arrow Tic," and invite any
,who desire to inspect it, to give us a call.
?Messrs. E.. H, Radgers & Co. have, made ar
rangements to supply this tic, ic WBCf where
it is desired by planters. See Advei.t"-,cri-lcnt
The Charleston Hotel.
)Vc took up our abode at this well-known
.and popular Hotel, upon our recent trip to tho
,oity. Wc found it fully equal to its past repu
tation, that is so well known to our readers,
that it is unnecessary to enlarge upon it. In
being located in the very centre of business, it
has tho advontagc of any other house in the
city in situation; while the superior excellence
of its table, tho prompt attention of its do
mostics, and tho clcgnnco and comfort of its ac
commodntiona will always insure for it the ex
tensive patronago of tho public, which it so
well merits.
Tho name of Mixer, so long known to the
travelling public in connection with the Hotel,
is still represented by our friend George G.
Mixer, Enq., upon whom has devolved tho
proprietorship, since the recent decease of Mr.
William White, bis laic copartner. Wc com
mend our renders who visit the oity to his
courteous hospitality. . .
