Salt as an Article of Food.

The true value of salt for feeding to animals
is neither ns well known nor appreciated as it
should bo by farmers.' That animals actually
require it, io shown by the amount of salt con

have to furnish it to thoir own injury. And,
what is true of the human species,' is equally

Rules For Farmers.
? 1. The farmer ought to rise parly, to soe
that others do ep, nod that both his example
be followed and his orders obeye'd.
2. The* whole farm ??liould be* regularly in
spected, and not only every field examined,
but every beast seen at least once a day.
i 3, In a considerable farm it is of the utmost
consequence to hnVe hands specially appropri
ated for each of the most important depart
ments of labor, for there is often a great loss
'of time; where persons are frequently changing ]
their employments, and the work is ' not execu
[ ted.so well. .!
4. ; Every means should be thought of to
diminish labor or to incYcnno its power. For
instance, by proper arrangement, five horses
may do as much labor ah'rix perform,, accord
ing to the usual mode of employing.them.
5. A farmer, xjught never to engage in a
work, whethor of ordinary practice or intended
improvement, oxcopt aftor tho most careful in
quiries; but when begun, JiO ought to proceed
in it with much attention a"nd perseverance un
til, he has givon it a fair trial.
6. It is a main object in management not to
attempt too much, and never to begin u work
without a probability of being able to finish it
in due season.'
7. Every farmer should have a book for insert-,
ing all those-useful hints which arc ho. frequent
ly pecurring in books, in papers, and gathered
in the course of his reading, or in a practical
management of his farm.?Sinclair.
