. Benth of an Es.timaljjo Citizen.
? "We lire pained to hoar of the decease of Mr.
Samum. G. Fair, an influential and highly es
teemed citizen of this District, at his houso on
Thursday last, from a stroke of apoplexy. Our
siucere sympathies are with his bereaved fanu
t-oo, tlint the community has met with tho loss
of one of its most worthy and valuable mem
bers.

ers on tlie plantation of Mr. Kussell Zimmer
man, cuueoctod a plan for robbing the store of
Mr. T. H. RickenbakCr in this District. They
proceeded thither, and callcxl up Mr. S. K.
absent. The store was formerly a gin house,
mmA had a partition dividing off tl.o room for
storing vinegar, molasses. &c, from the rest of |
?the store. The darkeys inquired for syrup.
Mid upon Mr. R's. going jjito the small room
for the purpose of drawing it, they managed to
?tcal a quantity of bacon, pairs of shoes, and
other articles. Upon his return with the
syrup, Mr. S. E. 11. did not, owing to the dim
light, observe that these articles were abstract

day morning, when Mr. T. E. If., upon open
ing the rtore, observed it immediately. Sus

actually proceeded to Mx Kickenbaker's place,
and witli arms in their hands, and tho asser
tion that there were a hundred men in the
