A Children's Lawn Party.
The beaut ful nud spacious lawn in front
of Mrs. bawkins' residence has been the
scone of mauy a joyous party in the days

assembled Inst Saturday afternoon in celebration
of M'ss Margaret Uullosc's seventh
birthday. *
The little men and maidens had been
notified in due form several days beforehand
that Mrs. Diwkins rctpicatad their cotnp<ny
on this particular afternoon, and the
miter does net know of a single instance
where the invited guest sent "regrets.
About live o'clock the arrivals began, aud |
half an hour later the sight of happy 1'aco.s
and the sound of merry voices vroubl, we I
think, have til cd the heart of any but the
moat misanthropic looker-on with syuipntliet'c
gla loess.
After in at ly an hour spent in playing
"drop handkerchief," steal partners,'' etc.,
each liltfe gallant escorted a fair 1 tile
maiden to one of the many .able* tastefully
arranged in the center of the lawn, where
they were served by I he 1?lies of Mrs.
Hawkins' household aud several other
friends who gladly rendered any assistance
in their power to make the success of the
entertainment complete.
The sweet little lady in whose honor the
party was given occupied a place at otto end
of the largcsl. table, where site presided
with simple childlike case and grace ov?r
the ceremony of cutting and distributing
the "b rtbdny cake."
After | artiking heartily of the delightful
supper, tJio children again engaged in playing
games until the gathering shades of
ev'ening warned them that fond tititna.s were
then expecting their early return. Then,
as though thinking the time of enjoyment
had been nil too short, '.lie youthftil guests
toik their leave of their kind hostess and
her little visitor from the "band of the Sky."
Dear little Margaret ! May she have
many glad returns of this happy day. and
may the sweet promise of her beautiful
young life meet its fulti'mcnt in a noble
womanhood that shall bless all who a nie
