waut their old barrooms back again.
The writer was in attsodi ncc on the legislature
when the prohibition bill was under
discussion. The saine parties that fought the
Roper bill fought the amendment establishing
dispensaries. It now appears that some
prohibitionists are joining these enemies in
the tight against themselves. It nuioums to
this, when they refuse to sign petitions for
good men to be appointed dispensers.
The enemy wants to make prohibition
odious by making it well nigh impossible to
got stimulants for medical and saorumentnl
purposes. The enemies of prohibition offered
and suggested bills in the last legislature
of this character. They said : "The people
have demanded prohibition and wo will give
it to them in such doses so that they will
repudiate their own demands and disgorge
the thing after (hey have goitvn it." These
saa^e enemies are working along the same
line when they encourage the prohibitionists
in their purpose to keep down dispensaries.
These friends of the barrooms also know
* that "blind tigers" would flourish under
absolute prohibition, and (but there would
be fnoro whiskey sold by them than will he
dispensed in the utute witti a dispensary in
every county, and that they (some of them)
would get the profit*.
The prohibitionists should lend their in%
fluenco to the eaiab isiimeut of dispensaries
sOK under the law us it is, and when they have
MjL beon established th^y can use their influence
to have them confined sn)os fu|* modioli and
