An Additional building will be erected and I equipped with 160 looms. The matter has boon taken up very .quietly and more beadway has been made than could well bo ^imagined in ro short a time. The foundations for the buildings are now being ;dug out and the machinery has all been ordered. It is expected that the entire equipment of 160 looms will be running in the next 90 arka.U'i* *- ? tnp moving ail tlie time in manufactories. Less than two jcara ago the Gingham Mill was l?uilt and equipped with 240 looms. A year later the Athertoa Mill waa built and pu? to work oa fine yarns, leading out on now liaee or finer goods in the South. Still later, and lesa than aix months ago, the Gingham Mill makes an important extension and is now setting up 260 new looms, making its entire number 600. Then, before this work is completed, the Charlotte Cotton Mills are found to hare perfected all their arrangements, purchased maobinory and have in process of construction an important extension,constating of new buildings, new machinery and the employment ef mere labor. The new looms will be run on wkito cloth and employment will be given to 66 or 100 people, mostly white goods weavers. The contracts for almost all the machinery were placed right here in Charlotte. Wouk ok Lightning.?Nnsliwille, Tenn., April 8.?A special to the American from Spa ta, Teon., ssys: This vioinity has suffertd from electric storms to a great extent during the past few days. Yesterday the dwelling of Alonxo Durgess was struck by lightning tearing it into splinters and wrecking the furniture. Burgess' wife was struck, and she had one eye burned out and a Ice lorn oft'. Her body was terribly burned and she cannot rerover. Two other houses were destroyed in like manner, and a number of other people were shocked. Ordinance to Raise Supplies. That a tax of two (2) mills upon , every dollar of the value of all real estate, personal property and steck in trade, is heroby levied, to meet the ordiaary expenses . of the Municipal Government of the said town, f-r the fiscal year rdosssenolag first day of May, 1893.
