The opening devotional exercises on Friday was conducted by him and, as u-unl after receiving re; oris and enrolling delegates, au imitation was extended to all visitors ol any denomination to seats in the convention and participate in its deliberations. Tbe discussious were very edifying as tbe subjects wore imporiani, and quite a number discussed them. All who 1 have heard speak of them, say they were greatly benefitted by them. The Connie Maxwell Orphanage subject was postponed partly for tbe want of lime, tbe convention also believing the eutire denomination was well pesUd on it. All of the busiues proper was gotten throughwith on Saturday. The Troasuier, II. 11. Uu Sunday all the delegalos aud visitors repaired early to the church to witness the Sunday school exercises, and received much valuable biblical instruction .froui the corps qf elficient teachers. After the Sunday school exercises tho convention was called to order, and heard an Essay on the cause of missions, written b.* a young lady who is an euruest Sunday school worker. The ladies are beginning to lend their voices in the meetings, as well as their presence, which is highly appreciated. The missionary sermon was preached by t Rev. D. A. Swindler, from Phii. iv: 5, after which a collection umouutmg to over thirteen dollars whs taken, and the amount of over twenty-six dollars eent to the convention, . making over thirty-nine in all, for this session, which is quite a good showing. This amout was equally divided between Foreign and State Mis-ions. During the six years existence of this organisation it ban' contributed over oue ihuusand dollars to mission fields, etc , aud 1 think it is something Union County should be proud of. Besiacs it is the matter of the Superintendent's conference which meets during every session of the convention to disours subjects pertaining (o the Sundayschool. ' The good people of Padgett's Creek know just how to entertain such a meeting. Every day a welt spreid table was on tfio ground lidett with ^ood things for tho people during Recess. ' The singing was excellent, and contributed greatly tu the spirit and plessuro of the donYontion. Pvery family in tlto community seemed eager to accomodate the delegates, and their open-hearted generosity, was lavishly bestowed upou all, for which au appropriate resolution of thanks was tendered the church and community. I always look foiward with bright anticipations to attending a meeting there. 1 was assigned to Mr. C. 13. Hobo, which has been my home on several such occasions, and witli the genial bust and hostess, the young men aud the accomplished young ladies of the house, we were made to enjoy ourselves hugely. Archer Wolfe came out aud was ordered to surrender. He refused, and was fired upou and fell mortally wounded, but managed to crawl back in. Immediately the gtng opened fire on the marshals, snd a number of them were hit.
