it was entirely too long to be published

friend. T. J. Trinnuier to get out a sup- ^

complete the order until too late for this n

nnd it is quite unnecessary for mo to rehearse

most bitterness and excited the most enthusiasm,
was whether I shoult be returned to

should receive the plaudits of this people as

The efforts put forth by those who bplievcd
that I was unfit to govern this State were
perhaps worthy of more success, because
they certainly fought me with all the ardor,
enthusiasm and vigor of men engaged in a
patriotic undertaking, lint I am not here
to stigmatize their motives. I am here
ready to acknowledge that there are good
men on he h tides, patriots on both sides,

Court Next Week.
The October term of Court of General r
Sessions and Common Pleas for Union
County, will commene next Monday, Judgo T
Iz'ar presiding. A number of very impor- t
tant cases are upon the Sessions docket, d
involving murder, arson and many less t'
serious offences, which, if trieJ, will fully ^
occupy the time of the first week.
We cxpeet a large number of our aub- b
scribers will attend Court, and we know ?
that a largo number of lliein are greatly in l'
arrears to us ; and we know further, that j,
we are gotting ba lly in arrears ourself, for g
the want of the money due us by subscrib- ?
trs, and we must collect. Wo were very ^
enient last v?ov <i.~ s- ? " "

in unusually largo amount due us on our te
looks. h
Via have no hesitancy in saying now that
ic cannot carry those arrearages any longer. B{
t is but a paltry sum that each one owes, at
>ut when counted up on our books it makes
very large amount, and really we are not
bio to carry the load. Whatever others
lay have to do, we have to pay our debts, sli
nd intend to do so, if it takes the lASt of "
ur unlaundried garments, which will be
lie case if we don't collect eoon. We've te
ot down to grabbling potatoes for some- of
liing to help "fill up" and the patch is very
an ill. tVe are in the best kiod of humor, "j?

Kelton Wheel to Spiro- I
Kklton, Sept. 20.?Mr. Editor : Permit
ne this week to reply to Spiro. I take it for
;rantcd that the pumpkin did not represent
i face with one eye punched out, although
hat was the information I received. .1 did
tot add one word to the incident. As you I
mow, Mr. Editor, a correspondent gathers
lis news from what he hears, and it is his 1
luty to report it as lie gels it, and not add to *
ir take from, unless he sees and knows
hat it is not tho truth. If a correspondent
vas to make an Investigation of everything
io sent to a paper he would have an endless
oak.

vould have (he merchants think thai * ?...
ee'h and toe nails against them: but 1 will
nforiu them that I have not might against
hem. As I have siid before, the mercanile
fraternity have treated me like a gentlenan,
and I cannot say anything against
hem, so far as I mn concerned, but bo long
s 1 am a correspondent I feel it my duly to
eport what news 1 can gather.
So far as "standing to the rack, fodder or
io foddev," I meant, like honest men, nod
lot to tiicltor, if it took the last thing they
ossessed. *
Now I will say a little about slanderous
eports originating in a certain part of our ^
ount}'. As Spiro was replying to me I take
i for granted that he meant that such
epoi ts started in tjjc neighborhood of Kelton ^
r that I was the mail who opjgina'ed such ~
lauderous reports. And right here, I will ^
sk Spiro if he meant mc? If he does, he
rields a slanderous pen, and I will inform
im and all such, thai 1 always try to tell
lie truth. He certainly knows whp Kelton
fheel is. If he does not, let bim address
note to Kelton Wheel, Kehoo, Union ~
ounty, S. C., and he can find out. 1 would
ke to jiave a personal introduction to Spiro. *
As to the truthfulness of the report
mt merchants threatened to close down on j!
ie farmers who owe them, I can say that

n?not say whether or not the report in ^
nion Conn'y is truo or not, because I hare
it heard any person say that thoy havo ^

it it was t?ilkcd about, and that is all that jj
