As soon as you can, line jour turnips carefully, leaving not more than two turnips in the width of the hoe. Then, after a week or ten days, put a furrow w..h a small plow around the turnips, drillii g with hand a few cats in the furrow then a i small plow will split ridge in middle, covering your oats, ami giving you two rows of rats to each one of turnips. A fine ijtiantityof oil's can always be harvested in this way, costing only the drilling. Au& 1 "I 01* Rules Governing the Pri mary Election. rnilE Democratic Executive Cotnniinee at 1 a meeting held at Union, S. C., July 21st, lH'.H), adopted I be following rules to govern the primary elections hehl in Union County for the yearlMH): I. On the 2<Uli day of August, IN'.H), there shall bo hehl at each voting precinct in Union County, a primary election for the nomination of candidates for County officers, whether elective or appointive. II. The pods shall be opened at S o'clock A. M., and kept open without intermission until ! o'clock 1'. M., when they sha'l be C '>- d. Ml. At each precinct there shall be tin e managers of election, to be appointed by the County Executive Committee. IV. The managers of each precinct shall furnish a ballot box for the secure keeping of which they shall be responsible, ltnmcliitcly before opening the ])olls the managers, the committee of two and their clerk, shall subscribe to the following pledge: 1 do solemnly pledge my sacred honor that 1 will fait lit ally perform all the duties incident to my position as manager, or clerk i r committeeman of this primary election to the bc-t of my ability. V. At the opening of the polls the ballot boxes slia l be emptied of all contents nttd cxliibitei to all persons in nttcndauce upon the poll*. The boxes shall then be closed and locked or sealed, and shall so remain until the polls are closed. VI. 1 he managers shall keep a poll list and a tally list and for this purpose shall appoint a clerk. VII. No person shall be eligible to election at the primary election, who shall not pledge himself lieforchand, in writing, to the chairman of the Executive Commuter, to abide by the result of the election and support the nominees. VIII. The ballots use 1 shall be either printed or written, or partly printed and partly written on one sheet, and shall contain the names of all the candidates voted for and the ollices. IX. The duty of the committee of two shall be to remain at the polls from its opening until its close on the day of (lie election at each voting precinct, and to decide by a majority of tho committee and tnauugcrs the eligibility of any voter and all challenged votes. X. At such primary election all porsous cligihlo to vote at the next general election filiall be allowed to vote who em satisfy the committee and the managers that they have voted the Democrat c ticket, and are known Democrats: and that no voter shall be :il lowed to vote at any oilier precinct other than in the township in which he resides. XI. For the purpose of cartyiug out the requirements of Section X. the committee of two, tho managers or any one of thcin or any bystander shall be privileged ami authorized to challenge any voter and put any questions to him which they or lie may deem relevant to the object in view, and the "committee of two" and the managers shall determine his right to vote by his answers or other proof, aud accept or reject the vote thus offered. XII. On the close of tho polls the managers shall proceed immediately and continuously to count the votes in the satuo manner and under the same regulations as are prescribed by law for general electionsXIII. When the votes shall have been counted the managers shall make out in duplicate, returns showing the number of voles ca<t for each person voted for, and the total number of votes east, and shall deposit one of the returns in the ballot bos and file the other as one of the records of *tlie club. The returns shall he signed by nil the managers who shall likewise certify to the correctness of t lie same. XIV. The hallot box. containing the ba'lots, the poll list,and the certified returns of the managers, together w t'i any other papers they may deem proper to- include, shall within three days after such election, tie forwarded, securely lacked or -culed, to the secretary of the County executive Committee.
