recommendation of Judge Wallace, in consequence
of an affidavit presented to him by
Leaphart's attorney, was taken book to Lexington

Lexington citizens appointed at the. rneot'

of the court, but his granting of tho judge's
recommendation for a reprieve was obligatory.
The committee then had an interview with
the judge and informed him that tlicy desired
the return of the prisoner to Lexington,
anu that they stood ready pledged to his personal
safety. The Judge then commended
ihem for their sentiments and gave them a
recommendation to the Governor for the return
of Leaphart, in which the Governor
acquiesced.
The ctmmittcc pledged their honor as
Esntlemen for the personal safety of Leapart,
and aflir an order for his delivery was
' signed by the Judge ho was taken to taxington
by the committee, who left the city this
