brick mansion, ,he tho
Venerable old gent and his good W?T They,
owned a clock ; how high or how low it was,
we do not know, but for 8 long years the
? v- clock had been silent, and allowed to go unr
^ , molested. All of a sudden, bowerer, and
..." . to the surprise of all, after such a long rest,
the old clock began to strike, and kept
.. ' ..striking an indefinite number of times. A
. few days after this unaocountable freak, the
good lady of the house?the faithftil, devoted
wife and mother, passed "oyer the riyer."
A few years after this the old gentleman
** was one day somewhat surprised to hear a
repetition of the solemn clock's procedure.
The striking was in the same unmistakeablo
loud, clear tone. A few days more and the
old gentleman joined his devoted wife, who
had prcoeded him to the "other shore" a
few years before, under the same strange
circumstances.
This strange and deadly striking of the
old clock was the sufyect of commont for
weeks and months. Not a great while after
^^^^^thls, the young man was startled and ber
wudered to notioe the striking of the same
deadly monitor, and quick as' thought he
took the dock down and laid it flat upon the
" floor, saying, "you struck out father's and
mother's destiny but you don't strike out
mine." This young man is now a Minister
? oi ui? uospei.
Let's watch the docks. They arestriking
out our destinies every day and every hour.
As the farmers are looking up sood for ,
planting, I think it would bo well to put in
side crops and not dopend altogether on corn
. for a food crop. The undersigned planted
the soga bean last year and found them won'
derf-lly productive. Hon. Ben Perry raises j
' , soga beans for hogs and recommends them
highly for their fattening qualities.
