^^^^^^Wately brick mansion, l^?
venerable old gent and his good wite^They,
owned a clock ; how high or liow low it was,
we do not know, but for 8 long years the
clock had been silent, and allowed to go unmolested.
All of a sudden, liowovcr, and
- to the surprise of aH, after such a long rest,
the old clock began to strike, and kept
.striking an indefinite number of times. A
few days after this unnccountablo frenk, the
good lady of the house?the faithful, dceotod
wife and mother, passed "oyer the river."
A few years after this the old gentleman
was one day somewhat surprised to hear a
repetition of the solemn clock's procedure.
The striking was in the same umuistakeablo
lond, clear tone. A few days more and the
old gentleman joiucd his devoted wife, who
had preceded liiin to tho "other shoro" a
few years before, under the same strange
circumstances.
This strango and deajlly striking of the
old clock was the subject of comincut for
weeks and months. Not n great while after
this, the young man was startled and bo^
"wildered to notice the striking of tho same
deadly monitor, and quick as thought he
took the clock down and laid it flat upon the
floor, saying, "you struck out father's and
mother's destiny but you don't strike out
mine." This young man is now a Minister
of the Gospel.
Let's watch the clocks. They arcstriking
out our destinies every day anil every hour.
As the farmers are looking up seed for
planting, I think it would be well to put in
aide crops and not depend altogether on corn
for a food crop. The undersigned planted
the soga bean last year and found them wonderfully
productive. Hon. Hen Terry raises
soga beans for hogs and recommends them
**3*,, Very highly for their fattening qua'ities.
