merchants not to sell pistols or pistol
cartridges. That was a good resolution. A
great deal of the lawlessness in ibis State

pistols, l'istols and whiskey are the two
greatest enemies to domestic peace and
social order.
'Wo note another good resolution adopted
by the Jonosvillo Alliance of Union County,
as follows:
"Resolcrd, by this, the Joncsville Alliance,
that we will endeavor to give to our farms
more atleotion ths prosent year than wo
have in the past; and that wo will idle no
time, that we can profitably spend on our
farms.
, "Resolved, further, That we use all the
eoonomy possible and make all honest endeavors
to niret our obligations promptly."
The above resolutions?mutatis mutandis
?are good for all citieens, whether farmrs,
mechanics or professional men : 1st, to discourage
the carrying of oonoealed weapons;

here more than a week ago, looking healthy
but worn out. He took to bis bed the night

pneumonia, but the prime cause of all hia

welhknown engineer of Columbia S. C. has

Feb 16.?Appalling reports have been received
here to-day of tho mortality among
the Indians in the country east and south of
Oklahoma, from influenza. Indian Agent
^-^tane, from the Shawneo nation, estimates
nearly one hundred of that tribe hare
* within a week from the disease, about
two-thirds of them being children. The
Kiokapoos, Creeks, Iowas, Pottawotamies,
and Arapahocs are all afflicted, and their
condition is said to be pitaible.
The stricken tribes seom to have lost heart
when the grip first appeared, among them.
Jiedicino men ministered to their wants and
their cares, and they only seem to have aggravated
the disease, and since the deaths

16.?A sensation nas been created here, and
in South Jersey, by the discovery of a large
number of notes with the forged signature
of jidward Lippiucotl of Medford, N. J., who
is the proprietor of Haddon Hall, Atiantio
City. The amount runs up in the thousands.
Banks, Arms and individuals are the victims.
Mr. Lippinoolt says his wife is tho forger.
It was also discovered that the property of
Mrs Haines, the Bister of Mrs. Lippincott,
worth $5,000, has been Mortgaged to the ex
tent of $19,000 by Mrs. Lippinoott. Among
the victim* in this city are John Wanamaker,
Bharpless Bros., J. k J. Dobson, and other
large firms. The Lippincotts are well known
in Society, and are of Quaker descent. Lippincott
is ruined.

midnight- The net r esult is that the
rates on fertilisers from Charleston to
points on tho Columbia and Greenville division
of I ho Richmond and Danville Railroad
hive been considerably reduced. The
present rite from Charleston to most of the
points on the Columbia and Greenvillo is
$4 21. per ton. From and after the 24th inst
it will be $1,90 a "ton. There will be no reduction
in the rites froin Columbia, it is understood.
It is expected that the shipments
from Charleston will slacken until the reduced
rates go into effect.
