1 COTTON. Our cotton crop should bo tlic surplus and not the principal crop. Observation teaches (J us that the farmers who make cotton a sec- jn ondary and not a primary crop, have been per the most prosperous. I was surprised at the logic of the ootton buyer at the factory, last ^ iretlh, when expostulated with for not offering more than 9.76 for cotton, who replied, "cotton ought to l>e the same price as meat, ^ ad meat is ouly OJcts." The farmer that swallows such logic as that, is not tcorth six and a quarter cents as a man. I .It costs us ten cents a pound to niako cot- cop ton, and wo ought to get 15cts for good cot- can ton; and then our dividend would not be P?' W1 proportionate with the manufacturers. jDg ? The only cause I can give for these daily p Wf fluctuations, is the speculation, (or rather *bets and gambling) that is going on in such ^ places as Wall street. The company referred to is an entirely different organisation. It is a corporation formed to carry on the business of manufacturing and dealing in outon oil and all its products.
