C., and was was born in the year 18G0. t Having obtained a practical education, began business as clerk, in Mr. A. N. Wood's largo store of general uiercliandiso, in 1880. After serving in this capacity for several years, Mr. Lipscomb became a copartner with Mr. Wood. A neat room has been prepared, and fitted up with scats, mirrors, &c., for easterners to try on clothing. In a word, this large clothing store is surpassed by few others, even in much larger cities. Tho proprietors, having capital, credit, and experience, arc able to buy their goods from the largest manufacturers at the lowest possible prioes; which enables them to sell at such very popular prices. Ho told the jeweller and tho tailor and the drossmakor and the liquor dealer that ho would settle accounts with them immediately after the ballon ascension, from which lie expected to realize ^lnuch money. Land Frauds in tub Wkht.?St. Paul, Juno 27.?Last Saturday a real estate man named Stenegnard negotiated a loan of $4,500 with D. A. Jennoy, of llarrisburg, Pa., giving as security a mortgage on a block of land valued at about $15,000, owned by a wealthy brewer of Milwaukee named Uhlein. Stenegnard produced a deed showing that ho lind purobascd the property of Uhlein for $12,000. It turned out that the deed was a forgery. Stenegnard protested that ho purchased the property from a man whom he supposed was Uhle<n. Ia connection with tbis real estate fraud it is now learned that this is only one of a series of frauds, and that a gang of real estate sharks and swindlers has long existed in this city. Besides Stcensgaard the police in this city to-day arrested T. L. Draper, n local lawyer, Avery Cbadwick, L. l'artcllo, T. M. Cummings, Sidney Carvoy and George Kingsley. E. A. Carlson was arrosted at Anoka 011 a telegraphic order from this city. A number of forged deeds and mortgages were found in their possession and others in their rooms at the lime of arrest.
