Do Bight, Though the Heaven* Fall* "They are slaves who fear to speak Te the fallen and the weak, They are elaves who dare not be In tbb right with two or thr*et There are elaves yet, of many kind Slates to frivolus fashions, obsolete custom and public opinion, (that bug-bear to's very many) souls bound by the narrow hori ten of what tho world, or Mrs. Gruod may thick or say. Of oourse therh nr cettnio proprieties and established custom te be always observed, but my homely tel has notliiog to do with this. Any man o woman with average intelligence can easil settle in his or bor mind what is a prop* course of action to be observed when dea io? with grnerailiee; but when It comes I x. dealing man with man, brother witi Irotker, here is where we run agiounc Why will men and women dare not blway do e hat the soul whispers is right. Ht man bature in general is not so bad; if ur trnme'ed ft follows the dictates of cor science; but there are ao many intricat springs set in motion when a weak soul &i tempts to follow a particular lioe of aetior involving what he feels to be right, am JjBit on the other hand, the world may so; ~ What may be right for me my friend, ma be wrong for you, according to our menti status, er the talents God has given uc ?ui wiiatorcr you feel within your soul i right, dare do that. Let the world and it slaves say what may. Do what God whit pera to your ooosoienee is right, and leav the result in ills hands. "Paddle your owi canoeis a good and trite old saying Many of us women do need to give i more careful oo^ideratiou. Right aotioiyi spring from right motivei If then the fountain bead is pure the bal ahce of the stroam will be pure; dut ho* often are good actions encrusted and hiddei from a fear of the world. If one. couh - free ones self from this sonter-ptible fea the millenium would not seem so distant A great many, from a desire to be popular or on the aide with the majority, do vio lenoe efteu to conscience, striving to per suade themselves that "might makes right,' k forgetting "they are slaves who dare not bi ^ in (bO right with two or three." Fer mj part I have a most unqualified contempt foi any such wishy-washy oharaoter, %nd roj next strongest feeling it pity. Some persons with overy element and qualification for a noblo character allov tboir whole moral structure to be warpet ard almost ruiued hy this fault. They givi this defect or character every name bu the right one, and that is downright cow ardice. They call it refinement, const iera lion for tho feelings of others and policy &c. Woll, policy is a good thing, when no oarried too far, and when oombined witl kind christian tact making us to knov when to say the right thing in the right wai and in the right place,, is better still, fo: we have all boen made to feel at times, w< ' jl bad "oaat our pearls before swine;" bin when there is too much policy mixed u| with taot, it becomes ro palpably weak, ant then the least discerning can readily fathon the motive and that, after all, is self ag randisment, and self glorification ! If wi wish to do anything good in this world no* is the time. Wo can never travel this road but once. Only one life is given us here Let us be up and doing. Let us try t< make tbo ciroumsoribed sphere in whicl we live, a little belter for our- having lived "They are slaves who dare not speak, t< the fallen aud the weak." To illustrate : Suppose we know some poor sister whose good name and reputation , has been smirched and blackened by lh( vile tongue of rumor?that hydra-headed "they tay." We, in our owu minds an convinced of her innocence and purity Let us seek this unfortunate one. Maki her feel by a sympathetic look, a kindlj Eressure of the hand that we believe it er still, though there are others eo ~*rafu g? to pluck the "moto from a neighbors eye - v.: ,jand regard not the beam that is in thsli own." We must hare ohter and bettei evidence of her worthlessnoss than "thej say," before we can believe her se de praved "Tolho pure all things are pure,' and when we sec any one so ready te im pute evil, to others the suggestion verj naturally forces itself on our miods, thi detractor is not immaculate I Would noi kindness and sympathy do more fur the un fortunate, even though she had sinned than a drawing aside of our skirts, a tilt o the nose, or a lifting of the eyes in pioui horror ? Women are muoh to blance for seme o the hard bitter things in life. There seenoi such an utter lack of sympathy for one oi their own sex in distress, la one sense, ex elusivenesB of this kind does them honor but I am persuaded it spriogs more from t laok of sympathy than any fear ef aontami notion. . A brother may bo in trouble?I d< not mean brother by the ties .of bloed?w< are all brothers and sisters in one sens#.
