regarding the Schnaebeles affair bare teen
stopped cn route at Berlin by order of Prussia.
It is stated that Uerr Von Leiden, German

affairs, that Bismark regretted that the
Leipsic Court his ordered the arrest of Schanaebels,
without consulting the Chanocltor, fer an
offence concerning which Bismark reserved hie
opinion. Further papers relating to the Schanaebctes
atfnir have been dispatched to Berlin,
including fac similes of two letters from Commissary

induced to cross the frontier by false pretences.
Bismark was first made cognisant of the affair
through tho French Government.
Berlin, April 25.?The Judge who issued the
warrant for the arrest of Sehnaebeles says that
he possessed convincing proof that Schanaebeles
was the principal of a partykof conspirators,
in lengue with a French officer, who met
at the Cafe Khrhardt, at Slrasburg. The proprietor
of Ihe Cafe, and two architects named
Klein and Erbert, have already been arrested.

A Wo max to bk Hahukd.?Ashevillc, April
2G.?At the present Session of the Mitchell
County Superior Court a woman by the name
of Crowson has just been tried and convicted
for one of the most fiendish and brutal murders
ever perpetrated in the history of this
section. She is a white woman, and her child,
born of a colored father, was four years old in
January, the time of the murder. Tired of
the constant reminder of her shame this women
took her offspring of her unholy passion and
carried it to Tow River, some four miles from
her homo, on a bitter cold day in January.
The evidence was that the diabolical outcast
tied the hands and feet of tho child and, breaking
away the ice, plunged the helpless thing
into the freezing waters, unheeding its plaintive
entreaties not to be put in the cold river.
The child's cries and pitiful prayers were
heard by another woman, who had accompanied
the murderess, interceding for the child.
The woman is sentenced to be hanged.?JWirr

A Grkat Loss to tiik Stats.?President McBryde,
of the South Carolina College, has returned
from Knoxvillc, The statement made
in The Ktict ana Courier last Friday, in regard
to the probability ef Mr. McBryde's resigning
the presidency of this college to accept the same
position in the University ef Tennessee, was
correct in every particular. President McBryde
has accepted the offer made him, but, in doing
so, expects not only to remain here until the
close of the session, but not to tako charge in
Knoxvillc until their next session.
